Parent/Teacher Communication
There is a place at the bottom of your student’s homework agenda to leave comments or notes- I check these daily. I will check these daily. Also, you may email me at [email protected]. I try to check email as often as possible throughout the day, but we are often very busy. Please do not send urgent, same day messages in email. Call the school if you have aurgent, same day message. Our school’s number is 919.562.6000.
Monday Folders
Monday Folders go home each week. The purpose is to help you stay abreast of your child’s progress and to communicate any important information. Please check this folder with your student on Monday evening if possible, and return to school the following Tuesday. There is a Work Habits form stapled to the back cover of the Monday Folder. It will have information about how your student performed in school that week. Please review this with your student, and initial, indicating that you have seen it.
Yellow Homework Folders & Agenda
Your student will receive his/her nightly homework in their Yellow Homework Folder. This is where they will keep their reading log. Homework is due daily and reading logs, weekly. The students will record their homework in their agendas each day. They are expected to bring homework folders, assignments, and agendas back to school daily.
Homework
Homework is designed to review and enrich skills that your child has studied in class. It reinforces responsibility. Therefore, homework will not be graded on content, but rather on completion. With this in mind, I ask that your student does his/her best while completing homework, by writing neatly, following assignment directions, and putting forth his/her best effort.
There is a reading log located in your child’s homework folder. Your student is expected to read each night, for at least 30 minutes (first and second quarter) and 35 minutes (third and fourth quarter).
Behavior Management
I hold high expectations for all my students and require excellent fourth grade behavior. Thanks in advance for your support with this!
Clip chart
The Clip Chart is a great motivator that reinforces positive behavior choices. Your student will have the opportunity to start each day "ready to learn" and demonstrate that they are "showing pride", being "role models", and demonstrating "outstanding" leadership. Please don't hesitate to ask your student about his/her day! They love sharing great news with you :)
Sometimes, students have off days. When this happens, I will communicate this to in your student's agenda or through email.
Classroom rules:

Arrival and Dismissal
At 7:40 a.m. students can begin entering the classrooms. Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. are marked tardy, and must report to the office to receive a tardy slip. Dismissal begins at 2:45 p.m.
Transportation
Please send a note to school if you would like your student to go home a different way than usual. Without this note, students must go home their usual way.

Birthdays
Birthdays are special events! If you would like to bring a treat for our child’s birthday, please bring it so it can be passed out during lunch or snack. Notify me in advance, so that I may communicate with parents of students that have special dietary needs.Treats brought in for the class must be retail only (they cannot be homemade).
Volunteers
I would love to have parent volunteers help us in our classroom! If you would like to volunteer, please complete the volunteer information sheet and register as a Wake County Volunteer for the 2016-2017 school year. I will begin notifying volunteers once we get settled in our daily routines.
Thank you for your attention to these matters!
